Get to Know the Blogger: 100 Questions No One Ever Asks Tag

And here I am in the brand new year telling you about myself- a) even when you never asked for it in the first place and b) I love some self-promotion. I saw this tag on Chocolatesnwafflesblog and here’s a link to it.

So let’s get started!

  1. Do you sleep with your closet doors open or closed? I am not someone with OCD but really who sleeps with their closet doors open? I will never do that. And also after watching Conjuring, I bet anyone would do that.
  2. Do you take the shampoo or conditioner bottles from hotels? Yes! Shamelessly yes! Because they are too good to let go and when we pay for the room we pay for them, right? (I’m probably trying to convince you that I am NOT A STEALER and this is not a sin in case you wanted to try it out!)
  3. Do you sleep with your sheets tucked in? I sleep without tucking them in because I feel trapped and not at all comfortable. And I need to keep my one foot out of the sheets (weird habit).
  4. Have you ever stolen a street sign before? Not really interested in stealing street signs.
  5. Do you like to use post-it notes? I do like them but I don’t use them. That often.
  6. Do you cut out coupons but never use them? No.
  7. Would you rather be attacked by a bear or bees? Attacked by a bear. I think I may have a little chance to outrun the bear but the bees, oh no no, THEY ARE DEADLY!bear-attack
  8. Do you have freckles? No
  9. Do you always smile for pictures?  Well most of the time. I don’t want to look back at my pictures with me not smiling and just sulking around. I did that a lot when I was little. Sometimes I wouldn’t even remember I had to smile when someone takes a picture and then I look like someone scolded me just a second before running and taking my picture.. And I quote “Sometimes, it depends on who is behind the camera. Smile or not, I always look bad on pictures, so I avoid them as much as possible.” So true.                                                                             fake-smile
  10. What is your biggest pet peeve?  That I dislike people who are rude. There is enough unhappiness in this world and I don’t want anyone to be more unhappy than that. Also I don’t really like people who seem disinterested in a conversation. Like if you aren’t interested just sit in a room and lock yourself instead of listening to someone you aren’t even listening in the first place!? *rant over*angry-for-rude-people
  11. Do you ever count your steps when you walk? No I don’t. But it happens sometimes that unconsciously I count them.
  12. Have you ever peed in the woods?  Actually I have.
  13. What about pooped in the woods?   I don’t think so.
  14. Do you ever dance when there is no music playing?  Yeah sometimes (when no one’s watching) I usually know the song in my head and when I feel too bored to plug in the earphones, I dance without it. And I read a quote somewhere that goes something like this “And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who couldn’t hear the music.”                                  giphy
  15. Do you chew your pens and pencils?  Unconsciously yes, sometimes. But I stop when someone scolds me for it.
  16. How many people have you slept with? Just myself.
  17. What size is your bed? Medium, I think. I don’t know the bed sizes but I seem to fit so it’s good.
  18. What is your song of the week? If ain’t love by Jason Durulo.
  19. Is it okay for guys to wear pink? Yeah, it’s okay. I won’t ever judge a guy based on the COLOR he wears. I could judge him by his clothes no the exact color.
  20. Do you still watch cartoons? YEAH! Cartoons are fun and cool and I will never be ashamed of watching cartoons!
  21. What’s your least favorite movie? I really have to think about it. And after thinking I’d say Girl Next Door. I tried watching it several times but the whole concept is too weird for me and the actors also seem like they don’t know how to act properly. (No offence!)
  22. Where would you bury hidden treasure if you had any? I’d spend a little and bury the rest in a SECRET SPOT. You thought I was going to tell you?
  23. What do you drink with dinner? And sometimes cold drink, when my family’s mood is good.
  24. What do you dip a chicken nugget in? Tomato sauce!
  25. What is your favorite food?  PIZZA!!!                      pizza
  26. What movies could you watch over and over again and still love?  There is probably a whole list containing a hundred movies and some of them are – any Marvel movie, Made of Honor, Eat Pray Love, Jurassic World, any Chris Evans’, Chris Pratt’s, or Chris Pines’s movie
  27. Last person you kissed/kissed you? I haven’t kissed anyone from months! I have been staying home or studying to see any cute babies!
  28. Were you ever a boy/girl scout?  Not that I wasn’t interested, but the boy/girl scout thing isn’t very popular here. (here = India)
  29. Would you ever strip or pose naked in a magazine? No way! They want to showcase my talent? Fine! I’d never do anything that doesn’t feel good to me.
  30. When was the last time you wrote a letter on paper? In March 2016, I decided to write a handwritten letter to the people that were very close to me in school and give them that as a token of my love and remembrance. So yeah that’s the thing. And another letter I wrote to myself so that I would open it and read it again after 1 year. A letter to my future self.
  31. Can you change the oil on a car? I really don’t go near a car because I always feel I’ll have an accident when I’ll try to drive it and probably damage the car. It is just stuck in my head. I mean I go near a car when I have to sit in it but I don’t drive and so that is a thing I don’t know.
  32. Ever got a speeding ticket? Not even when I drive a two-wheeler.
  33. Ever ran out of gas? Not out of gas but once I was on my two-wheeler and I was supposed to reach somewhere and I knew I was 5 minutes late and then suddenly I felt the accelerator loosen in my grip and the vehicle stopped working. And it was the first time that something like this happened to me and I was in the middle of the road, probably on the verge of crying but then I walked to the place I wanted to go and then came back later for my two-wheeler.
  34. Favorite kind of sandwich?  CHEESE SANDWICH! Anything with cheese in it. cheese
  35. Best thing to eat for breakfast? Bread and omelette. I was not a big fan of it some time back but then one day I was eating it with some cheese and tomato sauce and I saw this brilliant white light from above and I have loved it ever since. Well, it may or may not have happened that dramatically.
  36. What is your usual bedtime?  I usually got to sleep at 11 pm, and sleep comes to me at 12. And I try to wake up before 8am.
  37. Are you lazy? I AM! And often I procrastinate so much that I don’t get any work done till the last day!
  38. When you were a kid, what did you dress up as for Halloween?  We don’t really celebrate Halloween here.
  39. What is your Chinese astrological sign? I just checked. Mine is an OX. Not very pleasing. But it means I am – Loyal, reliable, thorough, strong, reasonable, steady, determined.
  40. How many languages can you speak? My first language is Marathi (a language spoken in Inida), Hindi (another language spoken here), English, a little bit of French I learnt in school.
  41. Do you have any magazine subscriptions? Unfortunately no. I can read all the magazines for free on my mobile.
  42. Which are better, LEGOs or Lincoln logs? I don’t know what Lincoln Logs are. So LEGO…
  43. Are you stubborn? Yes I am. In matters where I think I am right and I don’t hurt anyone.
  44. Which is better Leno or Letterman? I don’t know what they are.
  45. Ever watch soap operas? My mother watches and so I have to.
  46. Are you afraid of heights? No
  47. Do you sing in the car? I sing when there is no one to hear me because I’m a terrible singer to the point where you might faint hearing me singing. Don’t say I never warned you!
  48. Do you sing in the shower? Sometimes.
  49. Do you ever dance in the car? I dance and sing
  50. Ever used a gun? Fake gun? Yeah. Real gun? Are you kidding? Also if you’d like to read the remaining 50 questions, you’ll have to wait.

Three Tips To Ace Your Exams

There are many tips that can make you a better student and this post is no different. But the way I see it studying becomes really simple if you know these three simple tricks.

But I’m no expert in these matters but these tricks helped me a lot and I hope that they help you too to become an expert in studies.

  • The first thing that you should remember is: Please don’t try to study on the bed. I was very guilty of this habit and I’m glad to say that I changed it and since then I’ve experienced a massive increase of interest in my study habits. It’s best to have a desk or table that you can use every time you do homework. If you associate that environment with work, you can actually start to focus faster; that’s why doing homework in bed isn’t such a great idea. You associate that environment with sleeping, not studying. Keep your work area well stocked with pens, pencils, notebook, and textbooks — anything you’ll need to do your assignments.

  • The next thing is developing your studying timetable. Don’t give yourself too much stress by studying for 2-3 hours straight. Allow yourself some time off; you’re only human. You can follow the “40 minute study rule”. The “40 minute study rule” tells that you should study for 40 minutes straight and then take a 5 minute minutes break. You can increase it to 10 minutes too. But don’t do any distracting activity during this break like watching TV or going online. They are activities that distract you from studying and it would be very difficult to recover after the break to study again. Do something light like talking a brisk walk or stretching.

  • And the last thing to remember is study regularly. That’s it. Even if you have a year or even half a year to prepare for your exams, study regularly. Make your timetable and allot some hours on each day. The hours you have to decide can me totally up to your needs, total syllabus or your capacity to study. Then study regularly. It is the simplest method to score good consistently. Because of the regular studies you’ll not even feel the pressure of the syllabus swallowing you during the examinations.

And if you tried these, tell me in the comments below if they worked!

An Imaginary Conference With My Favorite Authors And Fictional Characters

Hey everyone! Today I’m going to imagine something. And if you still don’t have the slightest of ideas about what I’ll be imagining, uh, it’s given in the title. Yes, right there.

Now you know what I’m going to do. I’m going to imagine a whole conference which I am attending. But who’s there? Exactly what I have to imagine!

I’m going to practice my prose writing and keep it in a prose form. And if you’re bored and don’t want to read I’ll make life easier for you. I’ll bold the names of the people I’ll be imagining. So let’s start.

I stumbled for my car keys. I was already late. Late for what? For the conference! Which conference? I told you last week that my favorite authors and some fictional characters are coming in our city to meet people. And I’m so excited! Who are coming? Oh, will you wait?! It’s a surprise for you.

I entered the car and started to drive. Did I mention I didn’t have my driver’s licence? And if a cop arrests me you’ll have to bail me out. What? Nah, just kidding. I turn on the music so that we can quickly reach there without looking at the clock for the thousandth time.

We reach the building. Huge posters and banners welcome us. We enter inside fearing not knowing what to do. But see, the people organizing the conference and here to greet us and take us directly to meet them. Thank God I’m not going to get lost in here.

We enter the large room, some people seated, some talking, some empty chairs waiting for us. Look there’s two empty chairs in the front row. Hurry, let’s grab them before anyone else does. I run forward and sit on the chair. Yeah! Front seat, favorite people! Life is so awesome!

Look there come the people. Woah they look so amazing. I wish I could look like them, like a writer.

The first one to arrive is Dean Koontz. Oh my god, I have so many questions to ask him about his books and how does he even plot them out. They are so perfect.

Next in the line is Hermione Granger! I was dying to meet her! I’ll ask her the secret of her intelligence. And how does it feel to have a series of books written on her life.

And look who’s next! Classandra Clare. I’ve just read her City of Bones but I want to meet her and make her sign my copy.

Next up, Cale Windermere from Annie Arcane’s book Hart Broken. Oh he looks so handsome even though he’s quadriplegic. But that doesn’t stop me gushing over his looks and personality.

And there would be Gregory David Roberts present  too. He wrote Shantaram and I’m in love with his writing and his thoughts. I would have a little chat with him and hope that he could share some of his experiences which taught him to be the person he is. He is an ex-convict and ran from a Australian prison. But after he came to India he changed and started working as a doctor for the people living in the slums. This was a heart touching redemption because he himself started living in the slums which is very hard for someone who came from a totally different country.

And at last the conference will have John Green. I loved his Fault in our stars and I’m dying to get writing tips from him on how to engage the reader and create so much emotion. I cried so bad after I finished TFIOS.

And at last I’d thank Eventbrite which is the largest self-service ticketing platform in the world that helps people find and plan events. And if you plan to have a conference, find conferences in your local area with Eventbrite. I’m providing a link to its page so that you can easily plan, find and manage a conference and it is all for free!

And I’d love to know who’d you like to meet at a conference? Feel free to take a look at Eventbrite and set up a conference now!

Weekly Recollections #6

Hey everybody!

I hope you’re having a great Sunday!

And so am I. I just ordered three books!!! And imagine my happiness when all of them came at really, really low prices!

If you read my post yesterday you’ll know that I’m beginning to be open about my life and what happened. Sometimes I think I think too much but then doesn’t everyone!?

I am currently reading Broken Jars, a fistful of dreams written by 5 different authors together. And I’ve made a schedule for studying but I’m finding it a little difficult to really follow it. I’m trying my best to follow it but I’m not just feeling like studying. And it’s bugging me because I’m a nerd and studying means a lot to me. I hope this coming week just increases my productivity and I’ll be able to study more.

I wrote these three posts this week. Do check them out if you haven’t.

How is you weekend? Any plans for the coming week?

You Are Enough

Really, you should love yourself. It’s easier said than done.
Some time back I was struggling to like anything I did. I didn’t like my hair, my eyes, the way I walked, even I started disliking myself as a person. And then I realized I have to live with myself for my whole life and I was even more distraught. The thoughts of not being good enough crossed my mind. But I had nothing to do except think there was something wrong with me. But there wasn’t.
All I needed was someone who could say “You’re good enough. There’s no need to prove anyone how you are.” Nobody’s perfect. But nobody’s totally imperfect too. Find that something that makes you different from others. Do what you love. Because at the end of the day only you can judge your actions, rather than some random stranger who knows nothing about you.
So just sharing this means I could (hopefully) save one of you from these negative thoughts. Start thinking about 5 things you absolutely love about yourself. I bet you’ll feel much better.

Friday Art #14 – A rose

Hey! I’m starting to post this again.

In other news I started to write my novel again and I plan on finishing it this time. For those of you who don’t know about it, I started writing it in July 2016 but I couldn’t figure out how to continue the story. But I’m back writing it and I’ll probably do a post about it soon.

Till then…

Have a happy Friday!

P.S. Do tell me how do you like the rose!

This or That Tag

I’m back with a tag! It’s This or That tag! Living in the pages nominated me. A big thanks to you!

  1. Reading in the couch or the bed?

The bed. And I don’t think I ever will sit and read on the couch. It just seems (and feels, of course!) kind of uncomfortable to me.

  1. Male main character or main female character?

Seriously, I don’t care. I mean it doesn’t matter to me if the main character is a male or a female but what matters is the story and writing. But for some people the way that males and females think matter, but I don’t think that way.

 3. Sweet snacks or salty snacks while reading?

I’d say both if I’m super careful while doing something at a 3-metre distance from my beloved books. I don’t want oil blotches and food marks on my books when I read them to remind me what I ate that day! But I’d say both are okay and it depends mainly on my mood that day.

  1. Trilogies or quartets?

Anything! I’m nor fussy about books. Not at all. I would love trilogies and quartets or even 15 books a series (that’s too unrealistic, but if you’re an author and reading this, you could definitely try this!). But I’m a little disappointed though with standalones because they’re like a single book and if I like the book I want something more of it. So basically I love anything and everything.

  1. First-person point of view or third person point of view?

I’ll again say both. But now when I thought about it, I favor 1st person viewpoints. They just click. If you know what I mean! And I could imagine being the character and know what they are thinking. It’s just fun going into another person’s brain (though I know I sounded a little bit of creepy when I said that!)

  1. Reading at night or in the morning?

Whenever I feel like. I can read at day or night or evening or at dawn! But I prefer the night because that’s when I finish my studies and get some free time and probably because I’m a night person (yeah, like an owl) so that’s the time I’m more active.

  1. Libraries or bookstores?

Ummm…depends. If I have money, then bookstore. If not, then a library. Simple!

  1. Books that make you laugh or ones that make you cry?

Both! I love to laugh and cry (possibly not at the same time).

  1. Black book covers or white book covers?

Both! Who cares about the cover when you get a book to read? Everyone basically? But really if I had to select any one from black or white I would choose neither and be happy with both of them.

10. Character driven or plot driven?

Character, I think. Because even if the story is not good, I can probably make do with the characters. They matter a lot for me because they are the one thing that can make or break a book for me, personally.

Book Review – City of Bones by Classandra Clare

I’m back with another book review and this is the book I’ve been excited about for many weeks and so I dared enough to buy the whole book set.

And I’d say I like this book cover more..

Than this…

because somehow I don’t like the idea of having a naked Jace on the front very appealing..

Disclaimer: This would be a little of fangirling review because seriously you want me to not fangirl? And this will probably contain some spoilers but I won’t be spoiling the book for those of you who had not yet read this book (because it’s been like 3 years since the whole “Shadowhunter Phase” and I’m betting that most of you all would have read these but if you lived under a rock, like me, from so long and had not for some reason read these, no worries!)

Clary Fray is seeing things: vampires in Brooklyn and werewolves in Manhattan. Irresistibly drawn to the Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, Clary encounters the dark side of New York City – and the dangers of forbidden love.

The book cover blurb basically gives the whole short and sweet summary of the world Clary is newly experiencing. She met new people, known as Shadowhunters, not at a good time because they were killing a demon. She is sucked into their world and she gets to know that all the things that she used to imagine are now true from vampires to faeries to restaurants that serve locusts with honey.

All of a sudden she gets to know that the world is kept a secret from Clary by her own mother, who due to some reasons doesn’t want Clary to hold any relation. And then one day her mother gets kidnapped by who is known as the Overlord himself (The Voldemort of The Mortal Instruments to be exact!). She struggles to find a way to get her mother back and in the process befriends some Shadowhunter kids Jace and brother-sister Alec and Isabelle.

And we follow Clary in her adventures to fit in the world she was destined to be.

The characters are the best part of this book. I’ll take all the characters one by one.

Clary – So basically Clary is a lost child in this new world, I mean who wouldn’t be? But she’s not the ‘hero type’ and needs a lot of saving. This is the reason anyone could relate to her. There are many, many secrets unveiled in this book and she acts like a normal teenager would do. But somehow, somewhere she seems a little bit annoying to me and I can’t point out where or how to be precise, but she is just…annoying. She randomly slaps Jace twice in this book in which I can understand only the first time she does it. But the second time it felt like she is a bit mad person with her hands slapping people in the most normal cases. Many people would think that she trails behind Jace all the time but when you consider it Jace being the only person that cares enough about her to see whether she’s living or not, she would naturally hang with him.

Simon – Simon is Clary’s 10 year best friend who is normal human. And I think he was the character I loved reading about. He’s quirky and funny and compares like with a video game. And he has a major crush on Clary, which she obviously doesn’t know because…she’s stupid I guess. He is a human and still he balances the Shadowhunter’s weird behaviour (they act like Edward from Twilight if you’re trying to picturise it)

Jace – I seriously don’t get what the appeal of Jace is all about. I mean before I read this book I saw everyone in the fandom be like “OHMYGOD Jace!! He’s so swoon worthy” But I never liked him in this book. He was so over obsessed with himself and he looked a little over confident to me (sorry Team Jace) but I’d happily choose Team Simon for this one! And half the time Jace is like helping Clary and the other half sulking and completely ignoring Clary or being rude to her. And even after being so confusing Clary just longs to stay with him.

Alec – I thought Alec could be a good character but we don’t really see that much of him in this book though I know he’s got a pretty good role in this series. All we know is that he hates Clary and loves Jace.

Isabelle – Isabelle is that badass beauty character who fights like a pro and dresses to kill. She is also not given that much role in this book but I’d like to see more of her. The contrast of Clary and Isabelle is also good to see where both the girls secretly envy each other.

Hodge – Hodge is like a father figure to the Shadowhunter children and he trains and mentors them. But if you’ve read the book I’m sure you wouldn’t have seen that plot twist coming. Am I right? Yes, I am. And I basically was like:

The dialogues!!!!What really made this book really great were the dialogues. I am openly admitting that I can really love a book which has great dialogues even if the story is a little ‘meh’.

And the twists! I mean I saw a few of them coming but others… I was like “How the hell did this happen?” I had to literally turn the pages back to reread the things that I missed and which became this huge plot twist.

This book was really a great read for me because I’m not into YA that much and this made me reconsider my favourite genres. I am really, really excited to complete the whole series now that I have bought them all at once.

I’d say if you’re a book lover and you’d like to read something good over the weekend you can give this a try. I don’t really have any reason to not read it but if you’re not into this YA/dystopian thing, you should probably skip this. But I would recommend it anyway. A big 5/5 stars!

I’d love to hear what you think about this? Let’s talk!

Book Review- Somewhere in the shallow sea by Dennis Macaraeg

In this suspenseful thriller, two lovers are in a race against all odds in the jungles of the Philippines to save their kidnapped friend.

Somewhere in the shallow sea will test characters’ development in order to outwit the man who is after the scientific compound they brought as ransom.

The whole plot of this book can be summarized in two paragraphs which are given in the book cover blurb. They are so apt for this book and there is nothing extra or that’s not relevant. This is a short, crisp and adventure-filled book.

Two lovers who were separated a few years ago unite again to save a person who is kidnapped by a Philippines local don in exchange for a compound that’s supposed to save the species of fish from extinction.

There are mainly three characters: the two lovers – Danny and Helen and Helen’s cousin and Danny’s best friend, Blake who gets kidnapped.

This is told from Danny’s point of view and I loved that he took the right decisions all the time and anyone could relate to him.

Helen is a strong woman who doesn’t need anyone to take care of her and she is brave enough to travel all around Philippines to find her cousin.

The writing style was what stands out in this novel. His writing was so fluid and the totally complementary to the novel and the story.

There was one thing that requires special mention here. The plot is written and plotted in such a great way. This story requires fast paced adventures where the two main characters travel around the country, taking help from people and arranging the money to be paid as ransom. But the plot is not always fast, it slows down a bit in the middle but the flow isn’t disturbed at all.

You’ll like it if:

  • If you like adventure novels
  • You like well plotted and well-paced novels
  • You are looking for something short and simple yet very complex

You’ll not like it if:

  • You don’t like short reads
  • You don’t like the adventure genre

I’ll give it a 5/5 stars.

Book Review: The memory of lost dreams by Davon M. Custis

Malik Soules has never seen such an amazing sight.

There lay a city of Imperia: gutted, destroyed, cracked with broken windows, every skyscraper went slanted within the deep underground cavern.

What happened to this place so long ago?

He accidently stumbles upon a machine called REQUIEM. By mistake, it sends him into a strange new world: where futuristic technology rules and sheer terror fills the hearts of ordinary citizens.

He can’t seem to escape this nightmarish dreams!

This book had a unique plot. A boy named Malik discovers an old closed library. He goes inside to find a futuristic machine named the REQUIEM. Unknowingly he enters the machine and pushes some buttons and what he doesn’t know is what the machine does. It makes him enter a weird world where people are recognised by their id.

He doesn’t know exactly where he is but he knows this place is not safe for him. The government has the only control and it’s very strict and the police arrest anybody who doesn’t follow the rules.

Then the person who made the machine and whom only Malik can see enters the story. He has a proposition for Malik to kill Zara, a wanted thief. But circumstances makes Zara Malik’s friend which makes it even harder for Malik to kill him. But why should he kill him? Because only after killing Zara Malik can exit this dream like scenario in the machine and return to his home. Torn between the two choices what will Malik do?

This book was not character driven but more of a plot-driven because the plot had the major role in the book. The characters were not fully described except the main character Malik who was just a teenager who is lost in this machine and doesn’t know how to even return.

You’ll like it if:

  • You like sci-fi novels with a futuristic setting
  • You like plot-driven novel
  • You like a novel that’s light and can be read very easily and quickly

You’ll not like it if:

  • You don’t like sci-fi novel
  • You don’t like plot-driven novel
  • You like a book that you can invest a lot of time in.

I’ll give it a 3.5/5 stars.
